ChatGPT can now transcribe and summarise your audio recordings
Upload a recording of a meeting, interview or lecture and ChatGPT makes a transcript, a summary or a draft follow-up email. Requires a paid plan.
On 6 October 2026 OpenAI added audio uploads to ChatGPT. You attach an audio file in the chat and describe what you want: a transcript, structured notes or answers to questions about the content.
The feature is available in ChatGPT's paid plans and business accounts, not in the free plan. Availability may vary by region and app version.
OpenAI itself warns that transcripts may contain errors and that quality varies between languages. Nordic languages are not specifically mentioned, so expect to check names and figures.
Think about consent: only record conversations where everyone knows about it, and don't upload sensitive conversations unnecessarily.
How to get started
- Start with a short recording, such as a two-minute voice memo.
- Use our new prompt "From recording to notes and email" in the Prompt Workshop.
- Compare the transcript with the recording on the most important points.
